Classroom Aquarium

This lesson, created by Amanda Taylor, was a group project to create our own class aquarium. This lesson incorporated different medias including: watercolor, oil pastels and crayons. We were inspired by watching many different ocean videos that had many colorful fish in them, we also saw many different pictures of colorful fish. The main elements we were told to include were color and pattern. Then we were given different fish cutouts for us to outline. The lesson taught us the crayon/oil pastel resistant of watercolor paints. This lesson helped us explore commentary colors and how they work together. In the end we got to see our own art work come together to create our own classroom aquarium.

An extension math activity would be to make a one to one correspondence using fish. There could be an math worksheet that has students add fishes together. The worksheet could have five fishes plus three fishes. Students could use actual fish they cut out to find the answers. There could be many other possible extension activities about aquariums or the ocean to go along with this lesson.
